Good PR Directories

Many of you may be wondering what PR is, don't worry your are not alone. PR usually stands for Public Relations but in this case we are just refferring to Googles use of PR which can be seen by using there toolbar.

At any rate, you are here at this page because you were interested in some good directories to be listed in and we will provide that but first lets go over why you want to be listed in a directory in the first place.

Getting listed in directories is a little like getting listed in the phonebooks. It provides a listings to relevant sites that are categorized by subject. Because of this, it helps search engines figure out the relevancy of your site as it relates to other sites. Becareful though, not all directories are the same.

Directories : The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

I can remember back in the late 90's when SEO was all about link popularity and search engine optimization was easy. Now link-runs have changed. Before getting a link from anywhere, you have to check it out just a bit as you do not want to experience the pitfalls of getting good about getting in bad areas of the net.

You may be wondering what is meant by the good, the bad, and the ugly. Basically its may way of breaking down how directory sites are valued and how they pass value. The good directories are mostly difficult to get into, the bad are easy but usually require a link back, and the ugly ones are easy to get into and they may ask for a link back but usually not because they are stealing your sites value anyway as they are linking to you with a 302 redirect.

  1. Good Directories

    • Usually Have A Decent Amount of PR and Have Been Around For Years
    • Are More Difficult To Get Into In That They Require A Review Process and/or A Review Charge
    • They Pass A Good Amount of Page Rank and Topical Relevance To Your Site
    • You may not even be able to get into some good directories as you do not know the right person
    • They Have Static URLS meaning That The Addresses of The Link Pages Do Not Have Question Marks and Ampersands In The URL
  2. Bad Directories

    • May or May Not Have PR, But It Doesn't Matter Because They Are Not Passing Value Anyway
    • They May Have Question Marks In The URL
    • They Require A Link Back
    • They Accept Anyone Who Wants A Link
    • May Require A Charge To Enter
  3. Ugly Directories (Link Farms)

    • May Charge For Review But Most Likely Not
    • They Accept Anyone
    • They Strip They Value From Your Site By 302 Redirecting To Your Domain

Oddly enough, some linking strategies that people put into place could actually waste time and hinder progress. With Blog Scheduler, you can circumvent the majority of problems normally associated with finding sites to get links from and properly evaluate any textlinks that you may be purchasing to see if they actually have any value near what you are paying.

Getting back on topic of PR directories, we have listed some of our favorites for you non members while actual members have full access to the whole 70 to 80 something prescreened directories (Free, Niche, and Paid). Another approach is to get links were its already being effective.

  1. ODP(9)
The king of directories used by many of the majors to seed their crawler. Directory is distributed to many other directories and major engines. It is the directory for Google, Lycos, Netscape and more.

  2. Yahoo Directory(9)
Next to ODP, this is the best directory on the internet, but you will have to pay a yearly fee for your listing. Its well worth it if you are going to market online.

  3. Chiff.com (7)
General web directory of "the Best sites". Guidelines specify no pop-ups or brochure sites (can be added to the business directory). Design and quality of content are considered in review. Submit form is at the bottom of the page.

  4. World Hot (7)
World directory with top 100 lists. Free reviewed directory seemingly randomly ordered. Not many topics to choose from and no descriptions of sites. You see a lot of brand names in the listings.

  5. HotvsNot (7)
Large directory with a nice submission system. Search works very well as they seem to crawl pages. Go to the page in the directory you wish to be listed on and submit. Nice feature links keywords you choose to your site listings in other categories.

  6. JoeAnt (6)
Reviews and ratings by volunteer editors. Indexed by SE and does pass PR. Popular directory that is used by many people. Results ordered by rating then alphabetically. Nice feature shows some features of sites eg-forums.
