Cloaking is basically to make it transparent or invisible, but in the case with javascript cloaking, it is to use javascript to hide crawlable information from the search engine that really will not help in terms of ranking or positioning yourself better in search. Rather, it would be to just enable users to see the cloaked javascript content as it may help out with functionality of the page.
